History

SquashWise was founded in 2007 by a group of Baltimore-area squash players determined to improve the extracurricular opportunities available to city youth. Our students are dedicated to becoming accomplished scholar-athletes and they have shown impressive gains in classroom effort, behavior, fitness, and attitude. As a member of the National Urban Squash & Education Association (NUSEA), we are based on the model of urban squash and education programs successful in many other cities across the country, including the original, SquashBusters in Boston (founded in 1996). In 2008 we were selected as NUSEA’s first-ever “Star Program,” entailing a $100,000 challenge grant over our first two years which we achieved in full with support from Baltimore’s charitable community. In 2010, the Baltimore City School Board selected SquashWise as an “Outstanding Partner,” honoring the work we do with city students.
