We help students realize their academic, athletic, and personal potential by combining intensive academic tutoring and mentoring with coaching in the sport of squash. Coaching Coordinator

SquashWise seeks candidates interested in sports, fitness, education and youth development for the Coaching Coordinator position at Baltimore’s squash and education program. This is an exciting opportunity for those interested in youth sports and mentoring, and is an ideal position for an experienced PE educator or squash player interested in making a difference outside of a school setting. Strong candidates will bring experience coaching youth, and a strong personal desire to help youth of color achieve equitable access to educational and athletic opportunities. Squash experience is not a requirement for this position, but is an asset.

Position Description

The Coaching Coordinator will be responsible for working with SquashWise’s middle school students in daily sessions comprised of fitness, squash coaching, tutoring, and other enrichment to assist them in reaching their life goals. The Coordinator will also be responsible for tracking student progress, corresponding with teachers and parents, leading field trips, and managing/engaging volunteers and mentors. The Coordinator will assist SquashWise in setting achievable yet ambitious goals for students, and defining measurements to track these goals.

Main Job Responsibilities

  • Co-coach the fitness program for middle school students after-school and during spring and summer breaks.
  • Recruit and manage volunteer coaches to assist at practices.
  • Plan and implement spring and summer break camps including squash coaching, fitness, volunteering in the community, and other enrichment.
  • Research opportunities for summer internships and camps and assist students with applications.
  • Document student progress and demonstrate improvement in athletic performance.
  • Build meaningful and lasting relationships with students, parents/guardians, and volunteers.
  • Provide support to SquashWise in the form of operational and administrative duties including social media management, event planning, program evaluation, and other duties as needed.
Desired qualifications & skills
  • The most important characteristic is to be mission-driven with a desire to work with youth from challenging neighborhoods. Other desired qualifications:
  • Significant experience managing groups of students in a coaching, teaching, or mentoring role.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and time management skills which are necessary to juggle multiple responsibilities and maintain strong relationships with students, parents, volunteers, and staff.
  • 1-2 years of experience working with youth.
  • Demonstrated ability to create strong rapport with adolescents and their families.
  • While not required for this position, experience in squash is a plus.
  • Former teachers are encouraged to apply, as are candidates with experience coaching sports.
  • Availability to work full-time during the week and some Saturdays. Hours: weekdays from 10am-7pm; some Saturdays from 12-3pm and occasional weekend trips.Availability to chaperone occasional weekend trips for college visits, squash tournaments, and other student experiences.
  • B.A. degree or higher.
  • Current driver’s license with at least 3 years of driving experience; clean driving record.
  • Pass a criminal history background check.
