Strategic Priorities Manager

SquashWise seeks motivated and mission-driven candidates interested in nonprofit management, fundraising, evaluation, and youth development to be the Strategic Priorities Manager at Baltimore’s squash and education program.

Position Description

The Strategic Priorities Manager will support organizational growth by focusing on grant writing, donor administration and cultivation, event planning, program strategy, and program evaluation. The Strategic Priorities Manager will work side-by-side with our Executive Director to position SquashWise for success, sustainability, and growth. We are looking for a driven self-starter eager to help take a grassroots nonprofit into our next phase of development.

Main Job Responsibilities

Fundraising
  • Manage all grants from start to finish: research, writing, foundation relationships, reporting, and tracking. SquashWise’s current grants portfolio totals $280,000, which we aim to grow next year with this new position.
  • Lead donor administration including donation processing, donor acknowledgment, and donor engagement.
  • Together with the Executive Director, research individual donor prospects and assist with donor cultivation and engagement.
  • Assist with event planning including two annual fundraisers and an upcoming 10th anniversary celebration this coming fall.
  • Support Executive Director and Board of Directors with growth plan to establish a SquashWise youth center, including donor cultivation, foundation grants, and marketing/planning.
Strategy, Monitoring, and Evaluation
  • Together with the Executive Director and frontline SquashWise staff, further develop SquashWise’s program strategy, define goals, and create structures for program staff to align their work with organizational goals.
  • Lead monitoring and evaluation efforts to assess SquashWise’s impact and identify areas for improvement, including monthly, quarterly, and annual assessments of progress toward goals.
  • Manage annual evaluation in partnership with Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health professors and graduate students.
Operations
  • Together with the Executive Director, provide support to the Board of Directors and plan Board meetings.
  • Provide administrative operations support including donor administration, accounting and maintenance of budget. Training provided on Quickbooks if the candidate does not have experience.
Desired qualifications & skills

Ideal candidates will bring a passion for non-profit development and youth work, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Specific grant writing experience is desired but not required as long as candidates can manage time and write effectively and efficiently. SquashWise will train the right candidate to manage and write grants, which is a large component of the job. Note that squash knowledge/experience is not a requirement to join our team, though an interest in fitness and/or athletics is a plus. Additionally, we seek candidates with:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in goal-setting, monitoring, and evaluation; knowledge of evaluation practices in the education-sector / youth development field is ideal
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to juggle multiple high-priority tasks and effectively manage time
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and driver record check.

High School Academic Coordinator

SquashWise seeks candidates interested in education and youth development for the High School Academic Coordinator position at Baltimore’s squash and education program. This is an exciting opportunity for those interested in youth and mentoring, and is an ideal position for an experienced educator interested in making a difference outside of a school setting. Strong candidates will bring experience working with youth from public schools, and a strong personal desire to help youth of color achieve equitable access to educational and athletic opportunities.

Position Description

The High School Academic Coordinator will be responsible for working with SquashWise’s high school students in daily sessions comprised of academic tutoring, SAT preparation, college readiness, and other enrichment to assist them in reaching their life goals. The Coordinator will also be responsible for tracking student progress, corresponding with teachers and parents, leading field trips, and managing/engaging volunteers and mentors. The Coordinator will assist SquashWise in setting achievable yet ambitious goals for students, and defining measurements to track these goals. Squash experience is not a requirement for this position.

Main Job Responsibilities

  • Lead the academic tutoring program for 9th-12th grade students after-school and during spring and summer breaks.
  • Recruit and manage volunteer tutors to provide small-group tutoring during academic sessions.
  • Work with SquashWise’s counselor to effectively prepare students for college and careers by leading college prep sessions, assisting with college applications, and guiding students on job applications.
  • Plan and implement spring and summer break camps which include college visits, career days, volunteering in the community, health and fitness activities, and SAT prep.
  • Research opportunities for summer internships and camps and assist students with applications.
  • Document student progress and demonstrate improvement in academic performance.
  • Build meaningful and lasting relationships with students, parents/guardians, and volunteers.
  • Provide support to SquashWise in the form of operational and administrative duties including social media management, event planning, program evaluation, and other duties as needed.
Desired qualifications & skills
  • The most important characteristic is to be mission-driven with a desire to work with youth from challenging neighborhoods. Other desired qualifications:
  • Significant experience managing groups of students in a classroom or academic setting
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and time management skills which are necessary to juggle multiple responsibilities and maintain strong relationships with students, parents, volunteers, and teachers.
  • 1-2 years of experience working with youth.
  • Demonstrated ability to create strong rapport with adolescents and their families.
  • Experience in program evaluation and academic progress tracking is a plus.
  • While not required for this position, experience in squash is a plus as is an interest in fitness and/or athletics.
  • Teachers, counselors, social workers, and other educators are encouraged to apply.
Requirements
  • Availability to work full-time during the week and some Saturdays. Hours: weekdays from 10am-7pm; some Saturdays from 12-3pm and occasional weekend trips.Availability to chaperone occasional weekend trips for college visits, squash tournaments, and other student experiences.
  • B.A. degree or higher.
  • Current driver’s license with at least 3 years of driving experience; clean driving record.
  • Pass a criminal history background check.
