SquashWise is a long-term support system creating opportunities for aspiring youth in Baltimore. We help students realize their academic, athletic, and personal potential by combining intensive academic tutoring and mentoring with coaching in the sport of squash. We are based on the very successful model of squash & education programs located in 20 cities across the country. www.baltimoresquashwise.org.
Described by many students and staff as “a second home,” SquashWise creates an athletic self-concept in students who may not have considered themselves athletes, and we introduce students to incredible educational and life opportunities through squash. Our staff team is deeply committed to our students, which is the number one reason why our staff retention is so high (ranging from 1-10 years, averaging 5 years).
SquashWise seeks candidates interested in sports, fitness, education and youth development for the Coaching Coordinator position at Baltimore’s squash and education program. This is an exciting opportunity for those interested in youth sports and mentoring, and is an ideal position for an experienced PE educator or squash player interested in making a difference outside of a school setting. Strong candidates will bring experience coaching youth, and a strong personal desire to help youth of color achieve equitable access to educational and athletic opportunities. Squash experience is not a requirement for this position, but is an asset.
The Coaching Coordinator will be responsible for working with SquashWise’s middle school students in daily sessions comprised of fitness, squash coaching, tutoring, and other enrichment to assist them in reaching their life goals. The Coordinator will also be responsible for tracking student progress, corresponding with teachers and parents, leading field trips, and managing/engaging volunteers and mentors. The Coordinator will assist SquashWise in setting achievable yet ambitious goals for students, and defining measurements to track these goals.
